![]() ![]() To some people it is a great idea and should absolutely be worth it, and to some people it is not. Whenever the topic of AppleCare comes up, I'm always surprised at how overwhelmingly positive the responses are. My phone or computer is not one of those, since I could re-buy one in a pinch if absolutely necessary. Insurance is worth it on the things that would absolutely fuck you over if lost: car, house, etc. In the event that I DO break something, I would have theoretically saved money from years and years of NOT buying insurance on my consumer goods such that I would still come out ahead. I do not have young children and I am not really prone to accidents I have never broken my electronics, so to me it isn't worth it. There is no right answer to encompass every situation. Even taking it into account, your mileage will vary. This is how I kind of look at it, although I see OP's point about the cost of manufacturing vs. Apple makes money with AppleCare, so that means that on average, purchasers of AppleCare lose money
